2023 Festival of Monsters: Academic Conference

The 2023 Festival of Monsters continues with a 2-day academic conference.

This year's academic conference includes panels on werewolves, monstrous women, monsters from classic horror films and more. Author Jess Zimmerman (Women and Other Monsters) will give the second of two keynote talks on Saturday. Staged readings of monstrous plays will cap both Saturday and Sunday’s conference time. Plus the Monsters Ball (at the Institute of the Arts and Sciences on Saturday) is sure to be frighteningly fun.

Sponsors include the Arts Research Institute of UC Santa Cruz, UC Santa Cruz Arts Division, The Humanities Institute at UC Santa Cruz, Porter College (UCSC), the UC Santa Cruz Foundation Board, the Institute of the Arts and Sciences, and private donors. Additional support provided by Bookshop Santa Cruz.
