Basic Needs Student Support Webinar: Basic Knife Skills, Home Prep Design, and the Elusive, Near-Perfect Pot of Rice

Amidst Spring Quarter adjustments there are so many changes to the student experience that our Basic Needs team of staff, faculty, student leaders, and community partners want to share resources available to support your success! Our Campus Basic Needs Co-Chair, Tim Galarneau, and Student Basic Needs Online Programming Lead, Brenda Walker, will facilitate a set of presentations across food preparation and distribution, Cal Fresh enrollment and renewal, off campus and on campus housing assistance, crisis management and support, and Financial Aid assistance in the era of a pandemic.

Basic Knife Skills, Home Prep Design, and the Elusive, Near-Perfect Pot of Rice (Tuesday, 3-4pm)
Featuring: Brooks Schmitt, Cowell Coffee Shop Food Supervisor

In this workshop, we will cover knife safety basics and a few simple cooking techniques as we make one of Chef Brooks Schmitt's favorite quick meals: the Korean Breakfast. Join us as we make a flash kimchi, a pot of rice, and a fried egg. During this workshop we will cover how to organize your prep space, how to make a semi-perfect pot of rice and fried egg, and how to clean as you cook to keep a free flowing and dynamic kitchen even in the tightest of spaces.
