About this Event
View map Free EventAttendees are invited to a dynamic conversation on the creation of Danza a la Rebeldía, a powerful mural celebrating Black, Indigenous, and Latiné cultures in honor of El Centro’s 30th anniversary. UC Santa Cruz alumni muralists Irene Juarez-O’Connell and Victor Cervantes, students from "ART 139: Murals and Movements" and Professor John Jota Leaños will share insights into the collaborative process behind this vibrant work of art. Explore how muralism serves as a form of resistance, identity and cultural preservation, and hear from student artists about their experiences designing a mural that honors traditions like Danza Azteca, Son Jarocho, and Afro-Puerto Rican Bomba. Discover how Danza a la Rebeldía embodies the power of art and dance as tools for social change.
Arrive early to enjoy refreshments—empanadas (chicken, beef, veggie, vegan)—catered by Fonda Felix.
