Students, faculty, staff, and alumni submit photos in two categories: pictures from abroad and from the U.S. This event showcases diverse cultural perspectives through photographs accompanied by commentaries explaining the significance of the image to the photographer.

The theme of this year's Global Photo Contest is: Defy imagination. More and more UC Santa Cruz students, faculty, staff, and alumni find themselves traversing the globe and partaking in a rich exchange of knowledge, ideas, and culture brought on by a shift toward globalization. Each year, hundreds of international students, faculty, and scholars make UC Santa Cruz their home, while hundreds of other Banana Slugs go overseas to study or complete research abroad. We want to know, “What is something unexpected, or helped you to imagine life in another context during your International experience?”
