This workshop will focus on growing roses as cut flowers, specifically for small growers looking to establish a small rose block at their farms using organic methods. Topics will include: types of roses to grow for cut flowers;  plant sources and how to buy wisely; propagation by DIY cuttings; soil preparation, fertility, and fertilizer; planting a rose block; post planting care for the first year; winter and summer pruning; controlling/treating pests and diseases organically; irrigation; other seasonal care; and harvesting.

In addition to the in-person workshop, registered participants will receive free instructional videos on rose growing, including video presentations from two farmers growing roses as cut flowers as part of their small diversified organic farms, Teresa Kurtak of Fifth Crow Farms and Zoe Hitchner of Front Porch Farm.

This free workshop is being offered by the UC Santa Cruz Center for Agroecology at the Alan Chadwick Garden on the UC Santa Cruz campus with support from a California Department of Food & Agriculture (CDFA) Specialty Crop Block Grant.
