Japanese American Farming Experiences Prior to and During WWII

This presentation will explore the rich history of Japanese American farmers in the western U.S. in the years leading up to the forced incarceration of over 100,000 Japanese American U.S. citizens for the duration of the second world war.

Through a historical context, we will look at the success and challenges that they had farming before the war, and the subsequent experiences they had during incarceration. During this presentation we will examine those experiences through first person familial histories, as well as the greater agricultural story that was playing out in the west.

This event will include an open forum for attendees to share their experiences and insights into this time period. Our hope is to educate attendees on this often forgotten and ignored history in time and to avoid similar prejudice in the future.
