Students showcase six traditional Mexican folklore dances that carry decades of practice and centuries' worth of history, along with a storyline that intertwines with the regional dances in Grupo Folklorico Los Mejicas 52nd Annual Spring Show.
Audiences are invited to follow the beautiful bond between two siblings, Sol and Valentin, which transcends physical distance. Sol, in her final year at UC Santa Cruz, reflects on her hardships and personal growth which becomes a source of inspiration for Valentin when deciding which college to attend the following year. Through this story of sibling love, the production shares a lesson, one that will resonate with Mejicas members and audiences, that distance can't diminish the love and support of family.
Everyone is encouraged to arrive early to check out the food and photo opportunities at La Placita in the outdoor lobby area of the theater. Aguas frescas and pan dulce will be available for purchase before the show and during intermission. Audiences are also encouraged to come in their traditional clothes to join in this joyous occasion.
