About this Event
ᎠᎾᎦᎵᏍᎩ ᏗᎪᏪᎵ ᎠᎴ ᎠᏂᏴᏫᏯ ᎡᎶᎯ (Lightning Paper and the Indigenous World)
I worked with my tribal nation, Cherokee Nation, for many years to be included in the latest tech companies and media. We built technology infrastructure for indigenous technology to help strengthen indigenous cultures and languages. Most technology is set up for the continued expansion of colonial direction but what if there is a better way? I will talk about creating fonts, keyboards, digital map inclusion, and indigenous localization. The talk will cover creating films and animations in indigenous languages. I will discuss my work and my latest narrative film about a Cherokee elder living with an IHS AI robot. This short film is in the Cherokee language and stars Academy Award recipient Wes Studi. The talk will cover some of the importance that Indigenous societies have for the media, technology and the world.
