Prof & A Pint: Navigating a Whitewater World with Prof. David Lee

This talk explores the challenge of fostering flourishing in a whitewater world. How can we support communities in navigating the rapids they encounter? If digital technology has contributed to creating the whitewater world we are in, what role can it play in helping us to navigate it?

We are in a whitewater world. Automation is contributing to a rapidly shifting job market. Natural disasters are devastating communities. Political polarization and instability are eroding trust. These technological, natural, and political rapids are creating sudden and regular shocks to society, making it difficult for individuals and communities to know how they can adapt to protect themselves from the downstream consequences of change.

We explore these through UC Santa Cruz professor David  Lee's personal journey wrestling with these questions while developing models for understanding polarization, algorithms for scaling decision-making, and systems for integrating experiential education and nonprofit support.
