Seaside Shopping Spotlight:

Adopt a Monk Seal

Hawaiian monk seals are one of the most endangered seal species in the world, with the total population estimated to be around only 1,400. To aid in their conservation, each Hawaiian monk seal pup is given a National Marine Fisheries Service ID number that reflects the Hawaiian island on which they were born, the year of the study on that island, and the pup number. Now you can help in their conservation, too…

Adopt a Monk Seal from the Seymour Center and receive one of only 1,400 plush seals representing a real, live Hawaiian monk seal. You’ll also receive an info card and map with details on your specific monk seal. This is truly a unique and special gift for anyone who understands the importance of conservation or has a budding interest in marine science.

Dr. Terrie Williams at UC Santa Cruz’s Long Marine Lab has been working to save this species from extinction for more than a decade. With the Adopt a Monk Seal plus package, you will also receive a signed copy of her book, The Odyssey of KP2: An Orphan Seal and a Marine Biologist’s Fight to Save a Species.
