The annual SocDoc film screening showcases the work of the Arts Division's Social Documentation (SocDoc) M.F.A. students. Each student presents a 20-minute film, followed by a Q&A. The 2024-25 cohort, including  Em Butler, Catalina Jeanneret Calderon, Matte Hewitt, Jiayi Li, Jamilli Pacheco-Urquiza, and Maleah Welsh, presents Places That Hold Us: Notes for a Future Memory at the Del Mar Theatre in downtown Santa Cruz.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Social Documentation (SocDoc) is a one-of-a-kind program designed for future documentarians committed to social change and to documenting communities, cultures, issues and individuals who are marginalized in the current landscape of representation. SocDoc goes beyond the story. Founded in 2005, SocDoc has a contemporary view of documentary that sets it apart from traditional approaches. Students have a commitment to social justice and human rights and a desire to study their subject areas in depth. The SocDoc M.F.A. prgram prepare graduates for careers in independent media, documentary, human rights work and creative contributions to a range of fields.
