Description: First, Professor Chung will briefly review a two-stage meta analysis (or meta-regression) as a standard statistical methodology to investigate a short-term association between environmental exposure and health response by analyzing time-series data collected from multiple locations in environmental epidemiology. The first stage estimates the location-specific association using a Poisson regression with distributed lag nonlinear structure, while the second stage pools the associations across locations often with location-specific predictors (i.e., meta predictors) incorporated to explain the between-location heterogeneity. Then, she will introduce nonparametric Bayesian meta-regressions as advanced second-stage models in the two-stage meta-analytic framework and explain how the np Bayesian second-stage models are useful by presenting simulation studies and several data applications.
Bio: Yeonseung Chung is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in Korea. She is interested in nonparametric Bayesian modeling for environmental epidemiological studies. Much of her work uses daily time-series data for environmental exposure and human health outcome collected from multiple locations to investigate a spatio-temporal heterogeneity in the exposure-response association. Previously, Yeonseung Chung was a postdoctoral researcher at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and received a Ph.D. in Biostatistics from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She was previously a visiting professor in Nagasaki University, and is currently a visiting scholar at University of California, Irvine.
