Take Back the Night 2017: Know Your IX Workshop
With special guest Mahroh Jahangiri, Executive Director of Know Your IX
Mahroh Jahangiri, Executive Director of Know Your IX , will facilitate an educational workshop on student rights under Title IX. Students will gain a deeper understanding of Title IX, the landmark federal civil right that prohibits sex discrimination in education. Specific attention will be paid to how Title IX rights encompass sexual harassment, gender-based violence, and sexual violence. Know Your IX is a survivor- and youth-led organization that aims to empower students to end sexual and dating violence in their schools.

The Women's Center at UCSC is pleased to invite you to Take Back the Night 2017, a series of events which will take place from April 24th - 28th in recognition of April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The mission of Take Back the Night is to shatter the silence around sexual violence and to empower survivors. Take Back the Night events began in the late 1960s and are today hosted in over 30 countries.
These events bring all womxn and other marginalized folks together to speak out against the epidemic of sexual violence within our communities. Our series of events will rally members of the UCSC together in opposition to rape culture on our campus, promote a healing and empowering space for survivors, and give students the tools to advocate for a community free from sexual and dating violence.
