UCSC Chamber Singers

The UCSC Chamber Singers, under the direction of Michael McGushin, perform a varied program of choral works from the 20th and 21st centuries.

The choir will present a set of sacred works by Hugo Distler, a German composer steeped in the German choral tradition, whose compositions draw on earlier works by J.S. Bach and Heinrich Schütz, while using techniques of the first half of the 20th century. The concert will also include Lou Harrison's luminous tribute to the patron saint of music: Mass for Saint Cecilia's Day.

The program will close with a collaboration between the choir and members of the UCSC Jazz Ensembles, led by Stan Poplin, presenting arrangements of tunes by the Gershwins; Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young; Ben Folds; and John Mayer.
