With simultaneous language interpretation in English and Spanish.

Join leading Chilean environmentalist Juan Pablo Orrego for a conversation exploring water, development, and our aquatic identities.

Orrego received the Right Livelihood Award in 1998 and the Goldman Prize in 1997 for his work galvanizing mass opposition to dam projects on indigenous land in southern Chile.  Complementary to opposing destructive industrial projects, and to proposing alternatives to these, Ecosistemas and Juan Pablo’s fundamental thrust is environmental education through the promotion of an “environmental culture for action”, the promotion of an alternative paradigm in terms of our behavior within the biosphere, of humanity’s relationship with the ‘non-human’ and between ourselves, and of so-called ‘development’.

The interactive event is part of the Right Livelihood Community Conversations series aimed at connecting students and faculty from UC Santa Cruz with those at other Right Livelihood Colleges worldwide.
