Speaker bio: Giulia Pagallo spent the majority of her career at Apple, where she led R&D teams working on machine learning solutions for mobile devices, including multimodal input and natural language processing. In her work, she especially enjoyed the challenge of applying research to real-world use cases and her teams have developed software used by billions of people on iPhones, Macs, and Apple Watches. She also used her senior leadership role at Apple to mentor and promote women in the organization by participating in women forums and coaching junior employees.
Giulia grew up in Venezuela and received her B.S. and M.S. in computer science from the Universidad Central before moving to the United States to obtain a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of California at Santa Cruz, under Professor David Haussler. She serves on the board of directors for the Computational Science Research Center at San Diego State University, and volunteers her time with international youth organizations.
